Drake releases surprise single, announces album release date
Drake released a new surprise single, along with a release date for his upcoming fourth studio album, Views From The 6.
The new track entitled "Summer Sixteen," debuted on Drake's OVO Sound Radio Show on Apple's Beats 1 Saturday, and featured lyrics poking fun at president Obama, and fellow rapper's Jay-Z and Kanye West.
"Tell Obama that my verses are just like the whips that he in / They bulletproof," Drake is heard calling out Obama for recently stating that Kendrick Lamar was a better rapper.
"I used to wanna be on Roc-A-Fella, then I turned into Jay / Now I got a house in LA / Now I got a bigger pool than Ye / and look man, Ye's pool is nice / Mine's just big is what I'm saying," Drake continues sending playful jabs to Jay-Z and Kanye West. Later, the now inspirational DJ Khaled makes an appearance exclaiming, "They don't want us to have a bigger pool than Kanye!."
The 29-year-old also reignited his feud with rival Meek Mill on "Summer Sixteen," referencing his last two diss tracks against the Philly rapper from 2015, "Charged Up" and the Grammy-nominated "Back to Back." Meek Mill responded with a new diss track of his own mere hours later.
As "Summer Sixteen" wrapped up, Drake confirmed that the song was his first single off his next album, Views From The 6 which he said will release in April. "Summer Sixteen" is available now on Apple Music and iTunes.
This is Drake's latest exclusive release on Apple Music after signing an exclusive deal with the streaming service. Last summer, his mixtape with Future entitled What a Time to Be Alive, was previewed on Beats 1 as was his hit single "Hotline Bling."
