- Pep Guardiola has been confirmed as Manchester City's new manager
- City now have a boss who can set them apart from other big spenders
- Guardiola remains only manager to win five trophies of five in a season
- He has transformed Bayern Munich who were ready to rest on their laurels
- Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal have all missed out on top boss
- Now Guardiola has a chance to build an empire at the Etihad Stadium
This is the deal that changes everything.
It
is all well and good Manchester City throwing money at their quest to
dominate the Barclays Premier League and then the Champions League but
what will set them apart from every big-spending club is that they now
don't just have the fastest car - they also have the best driver.
Barcelona
may have won multiple trophies under Luis Enrique but Guardiola remains
the one coach who managed to win five out of five in one season.

He is also
the architect of the current success and he built that success on
questionable foundations - Barcelona were a team who had forgotten how
to win when he took over in 2008.
And
forget the fact that he has so far failed to emulate Jupp Heynckes and
win the Champions League in Germany. He took over a team ready to rest
on its considerable laurels after Heynckes' treble, and took their game
to another level playing football that the supporters at the Allianz
Arena had not seen before.
Will
he sign Lionel Messi or Neymar? In signing Pep the idea is that City
will not need to. He will make the players he already has better.
Someone will
be City's Philipp Lahm - an experienced player who thought he'd peaked
will suddenly finds himself taken in a new direction, perhaps in a new
position.
Joe
Hart will learn how to play out from the back and take up a position on
the halfway line for attacking corners, or find himself replaced by a
goalkeeper who can do that.
Sergio
Aguero will become an even better player as will David Silva, and Kevin
De Bruyne will make Chelsea fans even sorrier they sent him packing.
