PDP Fights tough, Gets into Anambra Central rerun Election..

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in a dogged manner  has fought its way back into the Anambra Central rerun election through the court.
Except there is any last minute change, former governor of the state, Mr. Peter Obi, may fly the PDP’s ticket for the election.
The ground for the PDP’s entry into the race was smoothened by the order of the Federal High Court, which directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accommodate the party in the race.
The electoral umpire complied with the ruling yesterday when it announced the shifting of the election from Saturday to a date to be fixed to make provision for the PDP.
The campaign to bring other parties into the race was championed by a group, the Anambra Central People’s
 Coalition.
According to the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Lawrence Azubuike, the indefinite postponement of the election followed the court order the commission received yesterday.
INEC announced its decision yesterday at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre in Awka, Anambra State, during the stakeholders’ meeting with political parties.
This is coming as the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi is set to grab the ticket of the People’s Democratic Party for the senatorial election, following the Federal High Court, Abuja’s order on Monday.
The Federal High Court had ruled on Monday that the PDP had every right to contest the re-run senatorial election in the state.
The court order followed the petitions from the All Progressives Congress (APC), PDP, ADC and others calling for the postponement of the election.
Former Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Chief Joe Martins Uzodike, who was Governor Willie Obiano’s Campaign Director-General, described the postponement as a welcome development.
He disclosed that PDP leaders and members had been mounting pressure on Peter Obi to contest the senatorial election, adding that the former governor had no option but to oblige.
Uzodike said that PDP had conducted its primaries and is waiting for INEC to come out with the list of the contestants for the election.
He however said that the “PDP is yet to submit its list, but everybody including myself (Uzodike) is urging Peter Obi to come out to save PDP in the central zone.”
Also, the state chairman of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Hon. Sam Oraegbunam, said that the postponement of the election by INEC came at the right time, adding that the parties had longed for it.
But the state chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sir Norbert Obi, said the postponement would not deter his party from being victorious anytime INEC was ready for the election.
Former national chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, was at the verge of being a sole candidate for the re-run election until the court ruling came.
For APC, the decision of INEC was a right step in the right direction, the state secretary of the party, Mr. Chukwuma Agufugo, said.
