– There would be vehicular restriction in some parts of the city
– Organisers promise adequate security
Ahead of the Lagos marathon which is slated for this Saturday February 6, the senior special assistant to the Lagos state governor on Sports, Adeboye Anthony Adeyinka, has disclosed that vehicular movements would be restricted from the marathon route.
Adeyinka who promised that the event will live to its promises, added that Lagosians will witness the best of marathon on the D-day.
He said: “We are well prepared for it and I want to assure Lagosians that they are going to see the best of Lagos; it would be the best of marathon in the world.
“There would be no vehicular movement on that route at that time in Lagos. All the routes that the marathoners would pass through would be blocked, but pedestrians can move.”
Adeyinka however assured that the exercise would be of high class and assured marathoners and spectators of adequate security.
“I want to assure that security for that day would be excellent and by God’s grace it’s going to be a huge success,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, atleast 50 elite athletes are expected to arrive the country by Thursday for the first ever marathon event in Lagos.
According to the general manager for the marathon race, Yusuf Alli, most of the expected athletes would be coming from Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Bahrain, Cameroon and Rwanda.
Alli also disclosed that the visitors would drive straight to the Expo Center to get their race bibs and numbers for the Marathon race which will start at 7:00am at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere.
The marathon will start from the National Stadium and move to Anthony, and thereafter to Gbagada Road, Third Mainland Bridge through Alfred Rewane to Lekki Ikoyi Bridge and terminate at Eko Atlantic City.
