The Nigeria Football Federation has appointed a former Super Falcons captain, Florence Omagbemi, as coach of the team.
The Executive Committee of the FA though
approved picking an expatriate as the coach of the team as recommended
by the Technical and Development Committee.
Omagbemi will therefore manage the team
in an acting capacity pending the appointment of the expatriate coach.
Last year the NFF President Amaju Pinnick had informed reporters that
they were in the process of getting an American to help manage the team
with the assistance of the USA Soccer Federation, however, no name has
been mentioned.
The NFF statement on Wednesday added
that the foreigner will be assisted by Perpetua Nkwocha, Ann Chiejine
and Bala Mohammed as goalkeeper trainer.
The NFF said the appointments were, “In
line with its determination to halt the dwindling fortunes of the senior
national women team, Falcons.”
The Omagbemi team will start work with
the qualifying match for the 2016 African Women Cup of Nations in April
against Guinea or Senegal.
Falcons who are the African champions
were drawn bye together with Ghana, Ivory Coast, South Africa and
Equatorial Guinea in the first round. Cameroon will host the African
competition from November 19 to December 3.
