The 55-year-old actor yesterday blasted Jumia for consistently making use of his dapper photos as a means of promoting their products without his express permission after they posted his photo on their Jumia Fashion Instagram page yesterday.
RMD’s publicist states that the unauthorized use of RMD’s image by the online fashion and beauty retailer has been ongoing for a while and has had the effect of portraying to unsuspecting customers that RMD regularly patronises the site.
RMD believes that the unauthorized use of his image to promote Jumia products and website has enhanced brand awareness about Jumia’s fashion line at his expense. The Diamond Ringactor is said to have asked his lawyer, Mena Ajakpovi of Messrs. Abraham & Co. to engage Jumia on the matter but they have been defiant and unapologetic.
Even though they admitted to taking the images from the actor’s Instagram page, they claim there is no copyright infringement case since the image was on a public platform. Jumia has since taken down the photo but RMD’s lawyer stated that they have shown no remorse nor offered any conciliatory compensation.
Because of this, RMD has decided to sue Jumia for punitive and exemplary damages for the infringement of his image rights.
