Oxford University’s Saïd Business School said on Thursday that former South African Finance Minister Trevor Manuel would join Ladi Delano, founder of Grace Lakes Partners and Nigeria’s youngest billionaire, and a number of other leading Africans as speakers at the Oxford Business Forum Africa meeting in March.
The annual event is jointly convened by the Oxford Business Network for Africa, which is made up of current MBA students and led by South African Hangwani Muambadzi, Zimbabwean Michael Railton, and the Saïd Business School.
This year’s event, to be held under the theme ‘Unreasonable Africa’, will explore the reality of business in Africa with aims including increasing awareness of opportunities on the continent, creating meaningful connections, and generating actionable insights.
The forum brings together heads of large, established companies and innovative start-ups with representatives from government and civil society as well as thought leaders, students and alumni from Oxford University.
The Saïd Business School has nearly trebled the number of African students on the MBA to 5 percent in less than two years, with another expected increase for the next incoming MBA cohort.
A statement from the school said: “The community of Oxford Saïd is eager to learn directly from business people in Africa about the challenges and opportunities of leading successful organisations, and are passionate about contributing to the continent’s continued growth.”
There will be a pre-forum evening with a gala dinner on March 11, before the full-day forum on March 12 at Saïd Business School in Oxford in the United Kingdom.
