Who would ever think of throwing a person out of a moving vehicle and leave that person to die? This story is true to Megan Torio. Back in 2011, her abusive boyfriend threw her out of a moving truck traveling at the speed of 65mph, leaving Megan with severe injuries that paralyzed her and threatened her dreams in life.
Megan Torio was an aspiring professional fitness model. Her dreams were coming true in 2010 when she sheded almost 100 pounds. She was even featured in the weight loss edition of Oxygen Magazine.
All of these dreams seemed impossible after what her abusive boyfriend did to her. She got a broken spinal cord, shoulder, collar bone and six ribs. Aside from this, Megan’s labia was sliced because when she was thrown out of the truck, she struck a road sign that got caught between her legs. She was paralyzed from her chest down.
Doctors told her she would never walk again. She underwent several surgeries for her broken back and for her sliced labia.
And though she was paralyzed, Megan started to train again. Doctors told her it would not be possible, but she was fueled by the sensation that the training gave her. She started to feel her muscles gain strength again, and soon enough, she got able to stand on her feet for two minutes.
This was a result of her physiotherapy and determination. But Megan did not stop there.
In the midst of her recovery, Megan didn’t believe that she would find someone who’d love her wholeheartedly. “I thought no-one would be interested in me,” she said. “I was paraplegic and didn’t feel like a woman.”
Until she met Rod in 2011. Megan felt that Rod was the man that she needed and that he was ready to support her and love her for who and what she was.
Rod was there for her as she trained and stunned her doctors with the impressive progress she made. She restored the ability to stand on her feet and exercise regularly.
Megan has been documenting her progress on Instagram.
She wrote,
“And even though I know it won’t be easy, it’s actually been pure hell through all of this, and wouldn’t even wish it on my worst enemy. I know my dreams will be worth everything! To inspire the world!!!!!!! To be a first partial paraplegic fitness model.”
Megan and Rod got married in 2012 and are now building their own family.
Her story inspires us all to never lose hope and to keep on trying even though everyone says it’s impossible. Now that’s such a lovely woman!
