– There are political calculations among some people that President Muhammadu Buhari may look for a suitable Northern politician to succeed him
– The names of the 7 Northerners who have some leadership traits in them will determine how the pendulum will eventually swing come 2019
– It was of recent that Senator Shehu Sani from Kaduna state lambasted Governor Nasir El-Rufai of trying to scheme his way to the top in the country
The subterfuge used by veterans in politics is second to none. An ambitious politician does not care if his popularity is waning among the electorates or not. Such a politician will always, want to have his way all the time.
It should not surprise anyone that some so-called loyalists of President Buhari may want to take over from him in 2019. Politicians like, Atiku Abubakar and Abubakar Bukola Saraki have been criticised some time ago for being overtly ambitious.
Below are seven of the Northerners who are potential presidential candidates come 2019:
1. Atiku Abubakar
The former vice president of Nigeria between 1999 and 2007, still has his eyes on the presidency seat. He started his journey since the early 1990s, but has been failing ever since then. Time will tell if he will bounce back in 2019.

2. Abubakar Bukola SarakiThe Senate president still has the intention of leading Nigeria. He tested the waters in 2011, but failed. He is currently facing charges of illegally acquiring properties, while he governed Kwara state.
