Former NBA Aba Branch Chairman Survives Armed Robbery Attack

A former chairman of Nigeria Bar Association, Aba, Chidozie Ogunji is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State after he sustained a gunshot wound from suspected armed robbers who made away with his car.
It was learnt that the incident happened at about 9pm on Wednesday  last week in front of his house while he was attempting to drive into his compound along Aba-Ikot Ekpene Expressway, a suburb of the commercial city.

Daily Independent  gathered that the ex-NBA chairman was rushed to the hospital immediately after the gunmen shot him and left him in the pool of his blood, speeding off in his SUV Toyota car which is yet to be recovered.
Although his family could not be reached at the time of filing this report, sources who described him as an easy going and kindhearted person said Ogunji was lucky to have cheated death by the whiskers as the bullet aimed at him, hit one of his thighs.
A source who witnessed the incident said he (Ogunji) was trying to drive into his compound and probably waiting for the gate of his compound to be opened, when some group of boys believed to have laid ambush for him, rushed to the car and started struggling the door with him.
The source said, “When they overpowered him and apparently because of the nearness of the compound to the road, they aimed and shot at him before speeding off with his SUV Toyota car. I wondered why those armed robbers could be targeting a lawyer who serves the interest of the poor masses”.
When contacted the Abia State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Ezekiel Onyeke Udeviotu said the Ogbor Hill Police station in whose area the incident happened was yet to make any official complaint to his office about the incident.
