Adam Johnson trial: Live updates from Day Six as ex-Sunderland star's child sex trial continues

The winger, 28, has admitted grooming and sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl but denies two more serious charges at Bradford Crown Court

England footballer Adam Johnson will return to court this morning as his child sex trial continues.

The winger, 28, pleaded guilty to grooming and sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl last week.
But he denies two more serious charges of sexual activity with a child, involving penetration, at Bradford Crown Court.
The jury have been told Johnson, who was sacked by Sunderland FC, finds himself in court due to his "excessive arrogance" and "sexual desire" for the schoolgirl.
The case will continue with more prosecution witnesses expected to be called today.

'I just gave her a couple of shirts' - Johnson

DC Walton says on being told he was being arrested, Johnson said: “Its [the girl’s name]. I just gave her a couple of shirts.”
DC Walton said after being arrested, Johnson had to grab onto the bar in his games room because he became “a little bit shaky”.
He then asked to be allowed to speak to his girlfriend Stacey.
Ms Flounders was heard to ask Johnson “Who is she?”
She also asked how old the girl was and Johnson replied: “Well she said she was 16”.
DC Walton told the court Johnson gave Ms Flounders “a cuddle” before leaving with police.
Detective Constable Kimberly Walton of the child protection team at Durham Police is now giving evidence to the court.
She arrived at Johnson’s mansion in Castle Eden, County Durham, with two other officers at around 8am on March 2 last year, the court hears.
DC Walton had to use an intercom which was answered by Johnson’s partner Stacey Flounders.
She said Johnson was asleep and went to wake him.
The officers then spoke to Johnson in a “games room” as Ms Flounders waited on the stairs, the court hears.
Johnson was cautioned and arrested on suspicion of sexual activity with a child.
