Minister
of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has raised the alarm over an
orchestrated campaign by treasury looters to discredit ongoing war
against corruption and misrepresent the good intentions of the Buhari
administration.
The
minister observed while addressing media representatives in Abuja
that those who stole the country dry have in bid to cover their tracks
and distract attention from their sordid past, engaged hired hands who,
through sponsored write-ups, radio and television comments demean the
anti graft stance of present administration.
The
minister had disclosed recently that 55 people allegedly looted
staggering sum of N 1.34 trillion between 2006-2013, but maintained
that more shocking revelations await Nigerians in the coming days as
details of looted funds unfold.
He
noted that the onslaught in the social media directed at the anti
corruption war by hirelings is not unexpected as corruption will always
fight back but urged not to be swerved by the opposer’s of the anti
graft stance of the administration given its huge human and material
cost to 150 million Nigerians.
“We call on Nigerians not to be taken in by the antics of the sponsored denunciation of the anti-graft war. The treasury looters, who have so much resources in their kitty, and their cohorts will throw everything but the kitchen sink at this Administration, But we have no doubt that Nigerians are discerning enough to know the truth which, in the words of President Muhammadu Buhari, is that unless Nigeria kills corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria” , the minister “, he stated.
On the civil servants who were involved in alleged employment
racketeering and extortion of job seekers, the minister disclosed that
13 officers have been handed over to the police.
He
said one of them a level 17 officer is now deceased adding that the
rest who are employees of an agency of ministry of ministry of
information and culture would be made to face the wrath of the law.
